About: NIST International School

NIST International School in Bangkok is a not-for-profit full IB World School offering a premium international education.

NIST’s commitment to building a community of diverse perspectives and experiences reflects its focus on developing students who are ready and ambitious to positively impact their world at NIST and beyond.

Since 1992, NIST has welcomed thousands of internationally-minded students and their families from around the world.  Working hand-in-hand with members of the United Nations, the first parents, students and teachers envisioned a school free from any one national curriculum programme.

In 1992 NIST became the first full International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Thailand, and by 1999 was offering all three IB programmes. Focused on inquiry, exploration, reflection and – most significantly – the belief that learning is at the core of the human experience, the IB philosophy aligned with the shared vision of our growing community.

Today NIST’s community comprises over 1,770 students aged 3-18 from more than 75 countries.

Ethos: NIST International School

NIST’s holistic education is inspired by its mission of creating inquisitive, lifelong learners and Global Citizens, empowered by its world-class teachers and curriculum, and enriched by an environment where everyone feels they belong.

NIST believes that education is more than just an academic programme.  While academics are fundamental to the learning experience, NIST also recognise the importance of wellbeing, activities, service learning and expeditions. These five elements come together to provide a breadth of opportunities for personal, social and cognitive development, helping students to find their interests and reach their full potential.

NIST understands what students gain by playing on a sports team, working with a service group, engaging in a school expedition, participating in a drama production, or looking after their physical and emotional health. These experiences make a lasting and positive impact on the growth of a child.

This is why the NIST Learning Programme has been carefully curated to provide a range of experiences that all work together to deliver a holistic education, every day, from Early Years through to graduation.

Through the experiences that underpin the elements of its Learning Programme, students develop the skills and dispositions they will need to be successful at NIST and beyond. As a committed IB World School, the NIST Attributes are informed by and align with the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning.

Facilities: NIST International School

Nestled in the heart of one of Bangkok’s busiest business districts, the NIST International School campus is located on Sukhumvit Soi 15, minutes from Asok BTS skytrain and Sukhumvit MRT subway stations. NIST’s 25-rai campus encompasses ten buildings that house over 90 classrooms and state-of-the-art facilities.

Sports and physical education activities are a large part of the NIST curriculum in helping students to develop as individuals and as a part of a team. The Sports Complex includes a gymnastics studio, sports hall with multiple basketball and volleyball courts, swimming pool, two tennis courts and a FIFA-certified football pitch.

Two outstanding and well resourced libraries that provide additional learning spaces and opportunities for student collaboration. Students can purchase meals from a central cafeteria, as well as from cafés and shops around the campus, enjoying vegetables and herbs grown in our productive roof-top garden.

Our Creative Arts Building provides performance and dance studios, gallery and display spaces for student art works, a theatre, multiple visual arts studios, instrumental and vocal music rooms, private practice rooms and a recording studio.

A new 350-seat theatre, The Black Box Theatre, was completed in 2023 as part of NIST’s strategic Campus Development Plan. The theatre is located in the new Innovation Building, that also provides flexible educational spaces for our students, language classrooms, and the school’s operational functions such as Admissions and the School Shop.

The multi-year campus plan includes renovating NIST’s older buildings, the expansion of sports facilities, and the building of more green spaces to support NIST’s environmental sustainability initiatives. This redevelopment is to meet the school community’s future needs in terms of learning spaces, health and safety, security, and creating greater efficiencies.
