We had the pleasure of chatting with Michael Murray, an enthusiastic and devoted international teacher. Michael successfully applied for the position of Mathematics Teacher at NIST International School on Schrole.
Michael was kind enough to share insights into his career, what attracted him to his new position, and his experience using the Schrole platform.
Career overview
Michael began his education career in his native New Zealand, before moving into international teaching.
Michael’s first international position was as Head of Year at Dubai International Academy. He then moved to Dubai American Academy, accepting the position of Mathematics Teacher. After 7 years in Dubai, Michael left for Singapore, taking on the role of IB Mathematics Teacher at Canadian International School.
Before securing his new position at NIST, Michael returned to Dubai in 2020 as a Mathematics Teacher at Greenfield International School.
Discovering and applying for the role of Mathematics Teacher at NIST International School
As a premium Schrole user, Michael was able to set up custom alerts based on his unique preferences, making him one of the first applicants to hear about the Mathematics Teacher position.
“I received an alert that a job matching my preferences had come up. The role of Mathematics Teacher at NIST International School was a perfect fit for my experience.”
NIST was seeking an effective and collaborative teacher with experience teaching mathematics in the IB Middle Years and DP Programme (MYP), a thorough knowledge of all subject matter, as well as the requisite teaching qualifications for mathematics.
An expert in International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum, with over 20 years’ experience teaching Advanced Level Mathematics, Algebra and Calculus, Michael was an ideal candidate.
The appeal of NIST International School
The first and only full, not-for-profit IB international school in Bangkok, Thailand, NIST International School was established in 1992 with the support of the United Nations.
NIST now welcomes over 1,700 students, representing more than 70 nationalities, and provide all three IB programmes. NIST is governed by the parent-elected NIST International School Foundation and is accredited through the Council of International Schools (CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Michael was familiar with NIST and excited to put his application forward.
“I was attracted to NIST due to its great reputation and because it’s a not-for-profit school.”
