YK Pao School is a pioneering international Chinese school. The school is a private non-profit institution founded in 2007, in memory of shipping magnate Sir Yue-Kong Pao, the renowned Chinese businessman, statesman and philanthropist. With around 1600 students from China and overseas, the school offers a unique Year 1-12 educational programme that integrates elements of Shanghai and international curricula, culminating with the IGCSE and IB Diploma programmes, both of which are complemented by core components of the Shanghai curriculum.
Pao School's innovative Chinese-English immersion bilingual programme nurtures the whole person - the entire emotional, social, physical and intellectual being – and prepares students to become engaged and responsible global citizens of the 21st century.
Pao School is divided into Primary, Middle and High School. The Primary School (Years 1-5) is a day school located in Shanghai's city centre, while the Middle School (Years 6-8) and the High School (Years 9-12) are located on the new Hongqiao campus and in Shanghai's Songjiang District offering UK/US style boarding education as well as catering to day students.

Utilities
For expat teachers who live in acommodation provided by the School (on- or off-campus, the apartments are fully furnished and utilities are provided).
Flights/Transport
Expat teachers and their dependant(s) (spouse & child(ren) recognized on work permit) are entitled to airfare from/to their country of origin (the closest international airport to their permanent home address) according to the following rules.
a) Beginning of employment: The school will reimburse a one way economy class ticket from the closest international airport to the teacher's permanent address to Shanghai.
b) Middle of employment (applicable for more than one year of service): The school will arrange a round trip ticket for the teacher and dependent(s) to the closest international airport to the international faculty member’s permanent address for each completed year of service, or reimburse up to the same cash amount for travel during the same calendar year. A quotation (i.e. the limit of travel reimbursement) will be given to the international faculty member by the school.
c) End of employment: The school will provide a one way ticket for the teacher and dependant(s) to the closest international airport to the teacher's permanent address at the end of employment. A standard fair quotation will be given by the School.
Accommodation
School provides accommodation to international teachers in Songjiang. Such accommodation will be on-campus or off-campus according to the School’s needs and arrangements. In the cases that the School is not able to provide accommodation, housing allowance will be provided.
On-campus Accommodation
- Fully furnished apartments are provided to teachers who live on SJ campus.
- Reasonable usage of utilities are covered by the School. The school monitors the ulitiy usage on campus and reserves the rights to charge staff for unreasonable usage.
- At the end of employment, RMB 2,000 will be held from the last payment and will be returned after staff checking out from the apartment with satisfactory status of the apartment and the facilities.
Off-campus Accommodation: School-owned Apartments
- School owned apartments are fully furnished.
- Internet is provided by the School. Staff member needs to pay for other utilities.
- At the end of employment, RMB 2,000 will be held from the last payment and will be returned after staff checking out from the apartment with satisfactory status of the apartment and the facilities.
Taxes
The monthly individual income tax (“IIT”) payment will be deducted from the monthly salary and be reported to the Chinese authorities by the School on the international faculty member’s behalf.
Savings Potential
1. Pension
The international faculty member receives a pension contribution of 7.5% of the previous year's annual salary as retention reward for staff who renew for one year after the contract expires. For the staff who renew two-year contract, 15% of the previous year's annual salary will be given as retention reward after contract expires. (IIT will be deducted).
2. Contract renewal bonus
1 year - RMB 10,000
2 year - RMB 25,000
3 year - RMB 30,000
Starting Salary Range
Annual salary (Gross, RMB): RMB 315,000-414,795.
Additional position allowances are available.
Further Degree ( Master's, Doctor's) obtained would count for one step up the scale.
The school pays salary in RMB on a monthly basis, from August of one year to July of the following year (one school year). The amount is confirmed according to the salary scale. Salary is quoted pre-tax.
Number of Contract Days
First contract will be two years, renewable by mutual agreement. Working days are typically ~195.
Furniture
For the international faculty member lives in the dorm provided by the School on campus or off campus, the apartments are fully furnished and utilities are provided.
Moving Allowance
At the beginning of employment, the school pays up to a fixed amount, according to the teacher's reimbursement application with official receipts supporting for shipping the personal effects to Shanghai.
After having completed four years of service at School, an expat teachers will also be entitled to the same amount of allowance for repatriation. Reimbursement is payable upon the teacher’s application with submission of valid tax receipts.

18.2 Tuition Discount at YKPS
- Each eligible child studying at YKPS receives 100% tuition fee discount.
- The tuition discount cannot be applied together with other tuition fee reduction nor with student scholarship at the same time.
- The tuition discount does not apply to any other fees, including, but not limited to: boarding fee, meals fee, school uniform fee, activities fee, etc.
Medical
International employees and their foreign-passport-holding dependants are provided with international medical insurance. Local passport holding dependants are provided with the same supplementary medical insurance as the School’s local staff.
Coverage
- Worldwide coverage excluding the USA (emergency covered in USA)
- Annual Limit up to RMB 16,000,000 per insured member, per insured per year
- Direct billing from clinic/hospital to insurance company at clinic/hospitals within the insurer’s network
- 20% co-payment in certain high-cost facilities in China Mainland and Hong Kong
- Full cover up to Annual Limit for in-patient costs upon pre-authorization
- Up to RMB 50,000 a year for out-patient consultation fees for Medical Practitioners and Specialists and prescribed medicines, Drugs and dressings
- Full cover up to Annual Limit for out-patient physical therapy (physio, Chiro and Osteo), and all outpatient surgery and oncology
