Established in March 2009, Tsinghua International School is an integration of Chinese and Western education and culture. The school provides students with an education that introduces the western progressive education philosophy with acculturation. THIS has a primary, middle and high school and currently we have more than 560 students. The students come from more than 20 countries and regions including the US, UK and Canada.
The school offers an inquiry based, progressive form of education to all students that includes the use of project-based instruction, cooperative learning, writer's workshop, and interdisciplinary experiences. In addition, high school students may participate in Advanced Placement courses.
Students at THIS have a wealth of activities from which they can choose to participate. There are more than 40 clubs and organizations, three sports seasons filled with opportunities for athletes at every level, and after school programs that range from working in the STEAM lab to working on your jump shot!

Teachers have extensive planning time (approximately 2 hours/daily) and three hours of professional development weekly during the work week. Elementary Teachers all have a full-time teaching assistant supporting student engagement and learning activities. Our teachers are encouraged to utilize creative inquiry-based learning methodologies in the classroom while working within frameworks provided by the American Common Core Standards and the Understanding by Design theory of teaching.

Accommodation
THIS gives every teacher a housing allowance that they use to find suitable accommodations. A 10,000RMB (1476USD) stipend is provided each month for housing. Administrator housing allowances are slightly higher.
Flights/Transport
THIS pays for travel to the school when initially hired. THIS also provides one round trip ticket per school year to every staff member to and from their home country. Details of flights and travel information are available upon hiring.
Dependent Opportunities
Up to 2 children who MEET THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS may attend the school without paying tuition. A pre-school is also available for children who have not yet reached the age of 6 by September 1 of a given school year.
Medical
Teachers choose a health care plan through AXA Insurance. The school pays for most of the cost of the World Wide Plan Excluding the USA. If teachers need coverage in the USA, then they pay the additional cost. 70%of the cost up to 13,000RMB of medical insurance for children and up to 10,000RMB for unemployed spouses is also provided.
Other
A settling in amount of 20,000rmb (2850USD) is provided to offset some of the initial costs of moving to Beijing.
For those already living in Beijing, the settling in stipend is 10,000rmb.
Bonus
20,000rmb (2850USD) is provided at the start of the 3rd year with the signing of a second two year contract. An additional 20,000 is provided with the signing of each subsequent 2 year contract up to 15 years. THIS also adds 5,000rmb to the salary for every year people teach at the school, as well as place teachers up a step on the salary scale (max is 20).
