Ethos: Wellington College China (WCC)

Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, on the stage or out among the broader community, a Wellington education prepares pupils to become confident, independent, and resilient young people.

WCC Early Years education provides students with a stimulating, nurturing and, most importantly, fun learning environment. Linked to the expectations of the English EYFS curriculum. Each class is overseen by a certified teacher and qualified teaching assistant. Under their care, children explore the essentials of phonics, maths, literacy, and Chinese language through fun and engaging play-based activities.

In Primary School, pupils build the foundations for long-term academic success. WCC use the English National Curriculum as a starting point, enhancing it with elements from the International Primary Curriculum. It is during this phase that pupils make the pivotal transition from general classroom teaching to specialised teaching and learn to take greater ownership of their learning.

Pupils in Senior School cultivate an abiding passion for WCC’s global scientific, linguistic and cultural heritage. In years 10 and 11, pupils work toward the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination qualifications. Sixth form pupils study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the A Level programme. These globally recognised university entrance exams explore academic subjects in depth and breadth.
