About: Kazakhstan International School (KIS)

Kazakhstan International School (KIS) was founded in 1998 as a Montessori kindergarten. In 2008, KIS became an IB World School, offering the globally recognised International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP).

In December 2018, KIS moved to a centrally located, state-of-the-art new campus, enabling KIS to expand to Grade 10, completing the Middle Years Programme. 2020 was another milestone year as KIS developed into an all-through IB school for 2- to 18-year-olds, receiving authorisation to deliver the prestigious Diploma Programme. KIS has also started the process for becoming a CIS and MSA accredited school.

Since its foundation, KIS has made student-centred, inquiry-based learning a priority, supporting quality student learning and social-emotional growth.

Kazakhstan International School’s (KIS) brand-new campus opened in December 2018, and its older Early Years children joined the rest of the school in January 2019. From this new site, KIS enjoys a beautiful and central location among the green hills of Almaty with spectacular views of the snow-capped Tien Shan mountains and the city of Almaty.

KIS classrooms feature the latest touchscreen technology in its state-of-the-art facility, including a spacious sports hall and a purpose-built auditorium seating up to 300. More facilities are planned as KIS continues to develop our campus and its grounds.

Kazakhstan International School (KIS) is situated in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest metropolis. Almaty has breathtaking Tien-Shan mountains and easy access to nature, along with four glorious seasons and many Western conveniences, cultural events, and green spaces make it an ideal city for families.

Almaty’s downtown is super-modern, with high quality shopping, dining and nightlife. Kok-Tobe is a 1100m hill in the south of the city with a cable car and large TV tower, offering attractions and spectacular views of the city.

Almaty has some very good museums, among them the Central State Museum, containing details of the coming of Genghis Khan, and beautiful costumes and musical instruments from Kazakhstan’s history.

There are malls with mid-range and luxury shopping, such as the Esentai Mall which also has an IMAX cinema, restaurants and a fitness center. Dostyk Plaza is centrally located with a vast number of stores, while Mega Mall is the biggest in the city. For a more traditional feel, the Green Bazaar also has kebab cafes and music.

For sport lovers living in Almaty, hiking in the mountain areas around the city is popular, and there is also multiple great skiing resorts like Shymbulak, Lesnaya Skazka, Ak Bulak and more. There are many fitness centres all around the city.
