About: Hong Kong International School (HKIS)

A co-educational private day school grounded in the Christian faith, Hong Kong International School (HKIS) serves Reception 1 through Grade 12 students from around the world seeking an American college-preparatory education.

Founded in 1966 by a partnership between the American community and the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, HKIS seeks to develop an educational community that lives out the words of its mission statement, while striving towards its vision: to become a leading place of learning that inspires a socially engaged community of collaborative, creative, and resilient learners dedicated to realising their full potential.

Serving around 3,000 students from over 40 countries, HKIS has two campuses on the south side of Hong Kong Island: the Lower and Upper Primary Schools are located in Repulse Bay, while the Middle and High Schools are in Tai Tam.

HKIS is accredited by the United States’ Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is a member of the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS).

Facilities: Hong Kong International School (HKIS)

Hong Kong International School (HKIS)’s two campuses are situated on the south of Hong Kong Island. The Lower and Upper Primary Schools are located in Repulse Bay, and our Middle and High Schools are in Tai Tam. Together, the campuses form one school community.

HKIS’ four programs are designed to expose students to a variety of sports, activities, and personal pursuits, which the school’s facilities help deliver.

Extra-curricular activities

Extra-curricular activities at the Lower and Upper Primary level should focus on inclusivity, provide progressive development in foundation skills and are delivered in a safe and fun environment. The 3pm Activities are inclusive and are not ability based or select in nature.

Sports academies

This platform provide students an opportunity to pursue their passion for sports in programs that value a culture of excellence, commitment, and respect. These programs enable students to reach their full potential as athletes while maintaining a healthy life balance.

Aquatics

The aquatics program’s mission is to provide a developmentally appropriate swimming program for students at Hong Kong International School. Each student will be offered swim lessons and a variety of aquatics activities at their level and ability, thus ensuring students experience success, enjoyment, improvement of their skills, and development of their knowledge and understanding of water safety concepts and skills.

Associated clubs

These external sporting associations offer HKIS students an opportunity to register and participate as part of their club. Practices and competitions may take place on campus or at various facilities throughout Hong Kong.

Taxes: Maximum standard rate of tax is 15%.

Accommodation: Provided on campus. If there are no vacancies in HKIS-owned apartments, housing subsidies are provided based on family size: Single (One bedroom): US$2,940/month Couple/Couple + 1 child (Two bedrooms): US$4,230/month HKIS Full Time Teaching Couples: Additional US$640/month Note: Amounts are based on 2020-21 subsidies and subject to annual review.

Retirement: 10-12% of salary depending on teacher’s contribution: HKIS contributes 10% if the teacher contributes 0% HKIS contributes 12% if the teacher contributes 6% or 12%.

Benefit type: Flights/Transport.

Description: Annual economy class airfare (cash allowance) to employee’s home of record for eligible employee and dependent(s) residing in Hong Kong.

Moving Allowance: Air ticket from home of record to Hong Kong for employee and eligible dependent(s). Shipping allowance based on family size: Single: US$5,130 Couple/Couple + 1 Child: US$5,760 Settling-in allowance of US$1,280 (per family).

 Dependent Opportunities: 100% tuition scholarship for up to two dependent children 80% tuition scholarship for third or subsequent child(ren) Scholarship excludes uniforms, meals, laptop computers, school trips, bus fees.

Medical: Global medical coverage for employee and eligible dependent(s) Premium is covered 90% by HKIS and 10% by the employee.

Disability: Total Permanent Disability Insurance equivalent to one year’s base salary.

Other: Term Life Insurance equivalent to one year’s base salary.
