About: Avenues The World School
Avenues The World School was founded in 2012 with a mission to redefine schooling for a fast-changing world. Today, Avenues is proud to operate as one school across six continents in leading cities around the world, serving students from the age of two to 18 years old in New York, São Paulo, Shenzhen, and Silicon Valley.
Avenues is one international school with multiple interconnected campuses. Unlike other groups, Avenues is not a collection of schools all pursuing different educational strategies, but rather one highly integrated learning community, connected and supported by a common vision, shared education design and curriculum, world-class technology and a talented headquarters team in New York City.
Avenues prepares students for engaged global citizenship in the twenty-first century, with an approach that combines language immersion, interdisciplinary teaching, a global curriculum, and a culture of creativity and deep collaboration.
Ethos: Avenues The World School
Developed by an in-house R&D team, the Avenues World Elements define the knowledge, skills and qualities that every Avenues student develops on their journey from early childhood through graduation. A unique combination of outcome and process, the table defines both what and how students learn at Avenues.
The table has two main components: elements (what students learn) and learning experiences (the processes through which they learn). The 60 elements span the categories of thinking, character, well-being, understanding, purpose, interconnections, origins, nature, innovation and investigation. The 11 learning experiences – including language immersion, projects, and service – are staggered across different developmental stages, from toddler through graduation.
For example, the first Avenues World Element is empathy: the ability to recognise, understand and experience the feelings of others. Like the other elements, empathy spirals through Avenues’ curriculum from the early grades to graduation.
Empathy might be combined with other elements like planning, beliefs and ethics, and the learning experience of service, in a community engagement project requiring students to take direct moral action. It might also be combined with creativity, design and entrepreneurship, and the learning experience of projects, to challenge students to solve a problem in their community using design thinking.
Schools: Avenues The World School
Avenues New York
Avenues New York is a 16-grade independent school located in the Chelsea neighbourhood of Manhattan. Since opening in 2012, Avenues New York has grown its student body from 740 students to more than 1,900 and has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Avenues Online is the virtual campus of Avenues. Avenues Online is an accredited, top-tier private school designed for students from toddler through 12th grade who want to pursue a world-class education freed from the constraints of a physical school.
The Avenues Online learning platform seamlessly integrates all facets of the student experience into one dashboard. From their dashboard, students and parents easily access daily schedules, Zoom links, courses, instructional resources, and assignments. Students submit work, receive teacher feedback, view grades and comments, and revisit past work all in one place.
Opened in August 2018, Avenues São Paulo is the second global campus of Avenues The World School, serving students from the age of 2 to 18. The Avenues São Paulo campus is a 40,000-square-meter, state-of-the-art educational facility, complete with extensive athletics and outdoor play areas, an expansive covered courtyard and a sunny parent café.
Avenues São Paulo is comprised of the Primary Division (from 2-years-old to 5th grade) and the Secondary Division (from 6th through 12th grade). Avenues São Paulo students enjoy frequent opportunities to collaborate with their peers at Avenues’ campuses in New York and Shenzhen, whether digitally or in-person on an international program.
Avenues Shenzhen is a haven of learning in the heart of one of the world’s most innovative cities, and the first campus of Avenues The World School in Asia. After launching in 2018 with a unique early childhood program, Avenues Shenzhen now serves students from two to eighteen years of age with a cutting-edge educational program spanning the primary and secondary divisions.
Avenues Shenzhen curriculum is the product of seven years of research and development and represents an elegant integration of Avenues’ global curricular system with Chinese compulsory education for grades 1-9.
At Avenues Silicon Valley, students benefit from an innovative, world-focused curriculum while finding their place within a warm, nurturing and locally-rooted community.
As the first step in Avenues Silicon Valley gradual expansion plan, in fall 2022 Avenues Silicon Valley launched our founding class program. In fall 2023, the program expanded to include grades 4–10. In fall 2024, Avenues Silicon Valley plan to grow by welcoming grades 3–11 and moving to its permanent campus in the midtown neighbourhood of San Jose. In the 2025–26 school year, Avenues Silicon Valley will graduate its first class of 12th grade students.
