Position: Human Resources Manager
Role: to lead HR team in recruiting staff and supporting the retention of staff to include, but not limited to, the following:
Provide oversight on employee hiring, retention, and termination in compliance with Japanese labor laws and manage tasks such as acquiring visas for new staff and preparing employment contracts.
Support new employees in settling in Okinawa, including help with city office processes, driver’s license/car arrangements, bank account/hanko setup, Hoikuen/Youchien enrollment, and cellphone contract facilitation.
Provide oversight for payroll data preparation and monthly payroll calculations including Shigaku Kyosai and employment insurance premiums and tax calculations.
Ensure accurate, up-to-date employee files and digital records are maintained.
Provide support to employees in areas of taxes, housing, health insurance, medical checks, time cards, PTO, contract questions, and workman insurance situations.
Serve as the point of contact with the school’s labor consultant.
Communicate with employees as requested by the Leadership Team.
Qualifications:
Meet or exceed board mandated qualifications (B2.2.1)
Must possess appropriate training and/or experience in human resources and/or a willingness to undergo training. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent writing skills to present school policies. Good organization and administration skills. Proficiency in Google sheets, docs and other job relevant systems. Bilingual (English and Japanese) required.
Be willing to complete additional duties as assigned.

Starting Salary Range
Modest salary and full benefits to include health insurance, pension, and a commuting allowance.
Accommodation
Apartments may be available at a subsidized rate for employees for their first year. They boast an amazing ocean view and we have 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments available.
Flights/Transport
Flights for the employee and up to one dependent are covered by the school. A relocation allowance may be available for applicants hired from outside Okinawa.
