College Counselor

Job Title: College Counselor Department: College Counseling
Reports to: Director of College Counselor Location: Tsinglan School, Dongguan, China

The College Counselor serves as the facilitator for the attainment of students’ academic or career goals, and assist them in developing their social and mental capacity.

Main Responsibilities:
Student
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to advise and assist students with academic and career development.
Evaluate students’ attributes and assist them in realizing their objectives.
Pay attention to societal and cultural differences in all student matters.
Guide students and their parents/guardians through the college admissions and application process.
Guide students and others in understanding and utilizing Cialfo, the college admission data management system.
Provide guidance and resources and teach tools to navigate the college search and application process.
Educate students on appropriate interviewing techniques, self-assessment tools, and application essay writing techniques, etc.
Meet individually with student(s) and parents/to explore and identify appropriate college options. Communicate regularly with counselees.
Parent
Guide students and their parents/guardians through the college admissions and application process.
Educate families about college admissions and financial aid or scholarship possibilities in different countries through regular workshops.
Maintain regular communication with parents regarding their child.
School/Office
Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities, which includes making regular visits to colleges. Stay current on high education changes. Understand the college admission process at a variety of institution types and selectivity levels.
Serve as a general resource for students, parents, and teaching faculty regarding admission criteria and college data.
Cooperate with parents, academic staff and external partners.
Implement and facilitate educational and training workshops for academic staff.
Arrange college visits and trips to local college fairs; coordinate college event planning and implementation; invite college admissions officers to visit the school and meet with students.

Participate in events throughout the year sponsored by the College Counseling Office, such as evening college fairs, workshops, college trips, and the Spring College Visit trip.
Prepare and send supplementary materials such as transcript, letter of recommendation to colleges.
Assist with other related duties as assigned by Director of College Counseling.
Be flexible, and assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs as may be reasonably requested by school.
