To Move Mountains

To Move Mountains Projects (TMM) is a Christian faith-based 501c3 organization that shares the love of Christ within communities and is passionately committed to providing quality education to children living in conflict and post-conflict regions of the world.  We are working to create a pathway for improved adaptive and innovative livelihoods, accountable governance, and restored social capital through education. Our organization currently serves communities within the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan, Sudan through our dedication to three main projects: primary school curriculum development (K-8), teacher training via Mount Zion Teacher College, and school construction and operation. You can learn more about each of these projects below.

Curriculum Development

To Move Mountains leads a collaborative primary school curriculum development initiative through direct partnership with the people of the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile regions. Working alongside regional education leaders, the curriculum team is developing a comprehensive Pre-Unit through Primary 8 (K-8) curriculum specifically designed for the educational realities and historical, cultural, and geographical context of these areas.

Mount Zion Teacher College

Mustard Seed Primary School

Mustard Seed Primary School (MSPS) is the first school constructed and operated by TMM. It is located within the village of Kujur Shabia. It serves as the laboratory school for Mount Zion Teacher College and the pilot site for the newly developed curriculum while fully operating as a complete primary school serving the local community.

MSPS Mission and Vision
Mission Statement

Mustard Seed Primary School exists to provide high-quality education to learners in grades PU-P8 and the community through compassionate, trained teachers with interactive student-centered learning and high academic rigor to produce pupils with a stable identity, historical understanding, critical thinking skills, and social competence with love and fear of God.

Vision Statement

Mustard Seed Primary School is a Christian-based institution that lays the foundation of high-quality education for the children of Nuba. It builds up a God-fearing, honest, resilient, hard working, humble, creative, and successful generation with all academic knowledge, practical skills, and desirable values to change their nation.

School Community and Language Environment

MSPS serves approximately 750 pupils from surrounding communities across the region. The school reflects the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of the Nuba Mountains, where Otoro (the local language) and Arabic are the primary community languages. English also plays a central role in school life and is spoken fluently by all faculty and organizational staff.

English instruction begins in Pre-Unit, equipping pupils with strong foundational language skills that support academic success and expand future educational opportunities. The multilingual environment of the school helps pupils develop confidence in communication while honoring the linguistic and cultural heritage of their communities.

Academic Program and Student Development

MSPS is committed to educating the whole child academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. The school curricula include English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arabic, and Bible. In addition to core academic subjects, pupils participate in weekly assemblies, drama, music, and sports programs that encourage creativity, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.

The school strives to create a nurturing, structured, and student-centered learning environment where children are encouraged to develop integrity, responsibility, service, and a lifelong love of learning.

Faculty and Teacher Development

A defining strength of MSPS is its dedicated teaching faculty. Most teachers have received professional preparation through Mount Zion Teacher Training College, To Move Mountains’ teacher education program. This investment in teacher development supports consistent, high-quality instruction while strengthening long-term educational sustainability within the region. All MSPS faculty members are committed to fostering positive relationships with pupils and families while implementing instructional practices that support both academic achievement and personal development.

MSPS as Pilot Site for Curriculum Development

MSPS currently uses two curricula. Levels PU-P1 follow the newly developed curriculum, specifically designed for the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile regions. While the curriculum for the upper levels continues to be developed, pupils in Primary 2 through Primary 8 follow the South Sudan primary curriculum and assessment framework. Teachers at MSPS partner directly with the TMM curriculum design team in the development, piloting, feedback, and revision process of the new curriculum. This ongoing collaboration is possible through multi-month on-site visits in Nuba and regular communication via shared documents, online meetings, and messaging.
