Welcome to Harrow Shanghai, and thank you for your interest in our school. We are a warm, wonderful school, working closely with our community to give our children every opportunity we possibly can. Academic outcomes are outstanding; music, art and the dramatic arts are flourishing; and we have a growing sports programme that offers far more than other schools of comparable size.
We are also, though, a small school. We have just shy of 500 children in our community, and we would like to grow. The school has steadily increased in size – we’re about 12% larger than we were two years ago in a mature market with some very good local competitors – and we are confident that we will grow further in the coming years.
Our community is a very committed one. Our parents and families mean a great deal to us, and they are heavily involved in school life. They support us in our work, andhave high expectations for their children. We also have high expectations for them, so that works very well!
We are, finally, a British curriculum school in Shanghai, China. Our identity is complicated: we are connected to Harrow School in London, with whom we continue to have very close ties; we are part of the AISL group of premium schools and have close ties to our sister schools; and we are firmly rooted in our time and place. Our children have rich, complex identities too, and we explore these in every way we can. It’s a great place to work, and a wonderful community to join: we hope you will agree!
Our teaching is based upon the EYFS Framework and the English National Curriculum, culminating in IGCSEs for Years 10 and 11 and A levels within the Sixth Form. We carry our reputation for educational excellence in everything we do, and we have our own nifty, very well-utilised campus with outstanding facilities within 35 minutes of the centre of one of the world's most exciting and dynamic cities.
Harrow Shanghai was the fourth international school in the Harrow family of schools, initially joining those in Bangkok, Beijing and Hong Kong, alongside Harrow School in London and its near-neighbour, John Lyon School, in London. There are now 12 AISL Harrow schools: Shenzhen, Chongqing, Nanning, Haikou, Zhuhai and the Hong Kong Children's School in China and Appi in Japan.
The School is organised as follows:
Early Years -Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception
Primary -Years 1- 5
Upper School -Years 6- 13
The School combines elements of educational philosophy, practice and traditions from Harrow School in London within an international context. As with the other Harrow Schools, Shanghai’s vision, 'Educational Excellence for Life and Leadership', is realised by means of a characteristically Harrow approach to schooling which demands of students and teachers high academic attainment, involvement in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, and engagement in high quality pastoral support structures, particularly the House system. Students are assigned into Houses in which their academic and all-round well-being is monitored, nurtured and supported.

I have been a school-level user of Schrole for recruiting for the last three hiring cycles and have found the platform they provide to be intuitive and comprehensive. The user interface stands out from others in the market as a crisp interface with the right level of features included at the right places. For me, the top two features are the ability to create school-specific application questions for applicants, and the availability of a short and long form applicant documentation PDF. If you’re looking for a recruiting platform, I highly recommend considering Schrole.
