About El Alsson, British & American International School
El Alsson British and American International School was established in 1982. The school offers a British section from Foundation Stage 1 (3 year olds) to GCSE with a Sixth Form for AS & A-Level (18 year olds) and an American section Pre S - G12 with an option of taking AP courses or completing a full IB Diploma Programme. Both schools are located on the same campus ground. The school prides itself on being one of the best International schools in Cairo and after 44 years enjoys a reputation for successful, high quality education and dedicated service to all stakeholders. The schools’ serve a broad and diverse community from across the city of Cairo and beyond.
The British International School follows the National Curriculum of England, with some adaptations especially in history and geography where Egypt and the Middle East feature prominently. The curriculum is well-balanced and meets the needs of a wide range of children. In the Primary School, students follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). In the Senior School, children take IGCSE/GCSE in Years 9 - 11, AS and A-level exams in Year 12 and 13. The examination results in recent years have been excellent, enabling students to enter prestigious universities in Egypt and abroad. The British School is a member of the Association of British Schools Overseas and recent inspections all suggest that El Alsson students perform well.
The American International School follows leading US curricular standards from Pre school – G12. The curriculum of the American International School is modeled on a typical American school program and meets leading US academic standards, including the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, Literacy and Mathematics and the Next Generation Science Standards. Our curriculum has been adapted to meet the needs of our student body, made up of Egyptian nationals and children of other nationalities so that on the firm foundations of the proven system of American education, we have built curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems that meet the needs of a wide variety of learners. Our American International School more than meets the accreditation standards of NCA CASI (The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement). The curriculum and supporting programs are balanced and cater to the academic, social and emotional needs of children. Our High School program offers students the choice of many electives and Advanced Placement courses leading to a High School Diploma, or the option to complete a full IB Diploma Programme, enabling students to enter prestigious universities in Egypt and abroad.
All sections of the school teach the Ministry of Education Arabic and Religion programmes for Egyptian students. Students from expatriate families follow an Arabic as a Second Language course as part of their studies.
