Savings Potential

For teaching couples, many live on one salary and save the second salary. For single teachers and single income families, it depends on spending habits (travel, eating out, etc...) Possible to save $10,000 USD - ?


BCIS sources - with considerable input from and with the new teacher - furnished apartments for all incoming faculty, located conveniently nearby the school in the CBD section of Shuanjing. Starting in the faculty member's 2nd year, they can choose to seek their own accommodation and couple a monthly housing allowance with their annual flight allowance as a "flexi-pool" whereby any additional funds not used for rent can be used as the faculty member sees fit. For the 1718 school year, the following rental allowances apply:
single teacher: RMB132,000/SY
single teacher+1 child: RMb132,000/SY
single teacher+2 children: RMB174,000/SY
teacher+spouse: RMB132,000/SY
teacher+spouse+1 child: RMB132,000/SY
teacher+spouse+2 children: RMB174,000/SY
teaching couple: RMB174,000/SY
teaching couple+1 child: RMB174,000/SY
teaching couple+2 children: RMB174,000/SY


Flights inward covered up to RMB 8,000 per adult, RMB 6,000 per child younger than 12. From 2nd year forward, flexipool allowance applied at RMB 12,000 / year per adult and RMB 9,000 for children under 12, to reimburse expenses for air travel.


The faculty member is responsible for covering all utilities (gas, electric, water, etc...) and phone/internet fees. Central heating is covered by the landlord.


Apartments are fully furnished including the white line of appliances, beds, TVs, A/C, sofa, etc...

Moving Allowance

One-time settling in allowance of RMB 2,000 per teacher and RMB 500 per accompanying family member; Baggage allowance (inward) of RMB 7,700 per teacher / RMB 13,900 for teaching couple w/out dependents or single teacher with one or two dependents / RMB 17,000 for teaching couple with one or two dependents, Baggage allowance (outbound): Single teacher = RMB 3,000 / Teaching couple w/out dependents - RMB 5,400 / Teaching couple w dependents = RMB 6,600.

Dependent Opportunities

Tuition is waived for dependent children living with the employee, generally up to 2 full tuitions. The school may consider waiving an additional child's tuition in special circumstances. Other school fees (sports trips, lunches, elective options, busing, etc...) are at the expense of the employee.


Full world-wide coverage (USA covered but only for emergencies), dental, vision, wellness, maternity (after 24 months working at BCIS), with cashless arrangements at two of the top clinics in Beijing servicing foreigners.


Covered 100% up to RMB 4,000 per employee/dependent, per annum, for routine dental work / 80% for moderate dental work (up to extent of benefit) and 50% for invasive work (up to extent of benefit)
