Shanghai United International School was founded in 2003 by the XIEHE Education Group. It has been awarded ‘National Outstanding Private School’, ‘Shanghai Excellent School in Legal Operation’ and ‘Shanghai English Features Alliance School’.

Shanghai United International School has over a dozen schools in Shanghai, as well as four other schools in locations within mainland China. Hongqiao Campus is in enviably proximity to the city centre of Shanghai.

SUIS Hongqiao’s long-running PYP is a firmly established and reputable programme, providing teachers with official IB training as well as Philosophy for Children (P4C) training. SUIS Hongqiao utilise a co-teaching model, with one foreign teacher and one Chinese teacher working collaboratively alongside each other, bringing together an East Meets West philosophy. SUIS Hongqiao welcome all teachers to apply and will provide PYP training to successfully implement the programme.

Hongqiao Middle School is a well-resourced, private school catering to both Chinese and expatriate students. SUIS Hongqiao has a large expatriate teaching body, and the school leadership team is a co-leadership system, comprised of a Western Head Teacher and a Chinese Head Teacher.

SUIS Hongqiao Pioneer Curriculum maintains a rigorous teaching style while reasonably introducing elements of international education, expanding the depth and breadth of learning, and laying a solid academic foundation for students. English, inquiry, science, music, sports, and arts are all taught by Chinese and foreign teachers to promote the comprehensive improvement of students’ Chinese and English abilities. Dozens of rich and interesting extra curricula such as baseball, golf, Lego, karate, and more, focus on cultivating and motivating students ‘hobbies and satisfying students’ personalised development.

The exchanges between students and both Chinese and foreign teachers within a multicultural atmosphere cultivate excellent character of respect and tolerance, and various practical activities have provided students with a variety of platforms for performance and growth. Shanghai United International School, Hongqiao Campus (SUIS Hongqiao) comprises two sections, Primary (elementary) School and Middle School. The Primary School section of the campus is an IB World School which runs the IB PYP programme from Grades 1 to 5 and feeds directly into the Middle School.

The Middle School runs the Cambridge IGCSE programme from Grades 6 to 8 and feeds directly into the High School campus located roughly 3km away.

School facilities include an extensive games field, a 400-seat auditorium, an indoor heated swimming pool, a large gymnasium and a cultural centre for the benefit of the students (and community at weekends). The range of laboratories and specialist teaching rooms necessary to support the IB programmes are also available.
