About: International School of Myanmar
The International School of Myanmar (ISM) offers an American education to approximately 520 students in grades Pre-K 3 through Grade 12.
Providing outstanding American education with highly qualified international teachers to students and families in Myanmar for over 20 years students, ISM graduates attend the top universities and colleges throughout the world.
The largest international school in Myanmar, ISM students in High School take Advanced Placement (AP) courses and graduate with a US High School Diploma. In addition, ISM offer a large variety of activities in sports, music, and the arts.
Staff and faculty at ISM come from all over the world, predominantly North America. ISM internationally experienced teaching staff consistently state that their students are the best they have worked with anywhere in the world.

ISM, as a community of lifelong learners, prepares students with the knowledge and skills, understandings and attitudes to become independent and socially responsible citizens who are successful in their future learning opportunities and in meeting the challenges of an ever-evolving world.
This learning framework consists of the Guiding Principles that drive all operations of ISM, the Macro Framework of overarching learning targets in each content area; the Assessment Framework, and the Units of Study mapped out in a yearlong scope and sequence.
The Guiding Principles, The Macro Framework, the Assessment Framework and using the UbD approach in unit planning are institutional and permanent. These are ISM’s intended curriculum and must be followed at all times. The Units of Study, UbD ™ stage three, in particular, are the living and the operational curriculum of ISM. This is where the day to day learning engagements are differentiated to meet the needs of students.
Location: International School of Myanmar
ISM is located in Hlaing Township, about a 20-minute drive north of downtown Yangon. The elementary, middle, and high schools are all housed in separate and near-by purpose-built facilities.
The middle and high schools are separated by a small residential area while the elementary school, which opened the beginning of the 2012-2013 academic year is located about a five-minute walk near the main road. Each campus has a cafeteria, library, computer laboratory, playing field, playground, covered multi-purpose/basketball court and science laboratories.
All ISM campuses have secure entrances as well as CCTV and security guards. Child safeguarding and protection are a high priority for ISM as well as ensuring the school is prepared for emergency situations.
Living in Yangon, Myanmar offers a unique blend of historical charm and vibrant modernity that captivates both residents and visitors alike. Number of contract days: 190
Starting salary range: $34,098 – $44,369
Taxes: Salary is taxed at the government rate, ranging from 8% – 13% depending on wages earned.
Savings potential: Living expenses in Yangon are very low. Teachers can easily live off of $500 or less per month.
Accommodation: Teachers are provided fully furnished housing by ISM. Teachers are housed in 2 different apartment buildings/condos. All are serviced apartments and are either one-bedroom or two-bedroom units.
Flights/transport: Teachers are provided yearly round-trip flights to the home of record. ISM provides transportation to and from school each day.
Utilities: Paid by ISM, including home internet.
Furniture: All apartments are fully furnished and serviced. Cleaning takes place, including washing of linens on a regular basis.
Moving allowance: $500 for a single teacher and $1,000 for a teaching couple.
Dependent opportunities: Some non-teaching dependents have been hired to be substitute teachers. Other non-teaching dependents have worked remotely or found work with NGO’s in Yangon. ISM is able to provide visas for non-working/accompanying partners.
Medical: ISM provides worldwide health insurance through TieCare. Teachers may choose to add U.S. coverage for a small fee.
