About: International School of Latvia

The International School of Latvia (ISL) is a vibrant, not-for-profit day school delivering an IB continuum education to children aged 2 to 19. Located in the leafy town of Piņki, just outside Riga, ISL serves over 400 students from more than 40 nationalities. It is the only school in the Baltics offering all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programs: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). As an independent, coeducational institution founded in 1994, ISL has evolved into a leading academic environment where inquiry-based, student-centered learning is paired with a commitment to community, diversity, and personal growth.

For international teachers, ISL presents the opportunity to work in a close-knit, supportive, and dynamic school culture. With a low student-teacher ratio of 6:1 and average class sizes of 17, educators have the time and space to connect meaningfully with students and personalise learning experiences. Faculty come from diverse backgrounds, with staff representing more than a dozen countries, creating a truly global working environment. Teachers are encouraged to innovate, grow professionally, and engage fully in a school community that values inclusion, collaboration, and lifelong learning.

Ethos: International School of Latvia

At the heart of ISL is a strong values-driven culture. The school’s mission is to challenge students through a holistic, inquiry-driven program that nurtures resilient, globally-minded learners. This mission is underpinned by core beliefs that guide everything from teaching practices to community interactions: empowerment, inclusivity, honesty, respect, adaptability, collaboration, responsibility, and courage.

Educators at ISL are not only supported to grow as professionals but are also seen as integral members of a learning community. The school fosters a culture where student agency is valued, where teacher voice is respected, and where reflective practice is woven into daily life. Staff are expected to serve as visible role models, engage in professional collaboration, and share ownership of student success and wellbeing. This collaborative ethos, combined with ISL’s dedication to academic and character development, creates a powerful platform for educators to make a lasting difference.

Facilities: International School of Latvia

ISL’s purpose-built campus in Piņki is designed to support holistic learning at every level. Originally constructed in 2010 and expanded in 2019, the campus has undergone multiple upgrades, including the addition of a modern lobby learning space, renovated gym facilities, and new office wings. Today, the 8,183m2 campus includes modern science labs, design and tech rooms, a language and media centre, a learning support centre, and a versatile arts auditorium. Classrooms are equipped with digital projectors, and the school features a range of hands-on learning tools, from robotics kits to 3D and laser printers.

Outdoor areas are equally impressive, with a 15,311m2 green campus space including a new playground and multifunctional sports grounds. There’s a large sports gym, indoor and outdoor recreational spaces, and fresh-air surroundings that help promote physical wellbeing and connection with nature. Teachers benefit from working in well-resourced environments that promote creativity, collaboration, and innovation. With professional development spaces and a campus that supports both focused learning and community gatherings, ISL is built to inspire.
