I. Responsibilities with Students:
A. Content:
• Demonstrates a solid grasp of instructional content.
• Prepares lessons that teach GWA standards, using approved material.
• Assigns appropriate homework.
• Requests authorization for significant instructional modules that have not been formally approved. (Note: All films should be pre-approved by the teacher’s supervisor.)
B. Instructional Practice:
• Develops a caring, engaging classroom environment.
• Pre-plans and implements effective lesson plans, setting high expectations and using best practices.
• Defines and communicates instructional goals to students for each lesson and unit.
• Develops higher-order thinking skills.
• Maximizes student on-task time.
• Incorporates reading and writing into all academic areas.
• Uses technology, when appropriate, to improve instruction.
• Presents lessons clearly, using accepted standards of verbal, visual and written communication.
• Displays student work.
• Promotes student feedback.
C. Differentiating Instruction:
• Respects students’ developmental abilities.
• Maintains clear awareness of students’ attention span limitations; varies activities accordingly.
• Regularly provides opportunities for large group, small group and individual interaction.
• Seeks to understand the different student learning styles represented in the classroom.
• Differentiates instruction to meet individual student needs, without losing sight of the group.
• Teaches to multiple-intelligences.
D. Classroom Management:
• Manages student behavior effectively.

• Regularly reviews student notebooks, adding written comments.
• Encourages students to develop habits of self-evaluation.
• Uses assessment results to inform instruction, making appropriate adjustments.
II. Responsibilities with Administrators, Peers and Parents:
A. Fulfilling Administrative Expectations:
• Contributes to staff meetings.
• Fulfills other assignments, such as yard duties.
• Arrives punctually to job assignments.
• Collaborates with teams to update school standards, curricula and programs.
• Follows the policies and procedures set forth in the Teacher and Parent/Student Handbooks, and other policy manuals.
• Follows appropriate lines of authority when addressing issues of concern.
B. Communicating Student Performance:
• Keeps required records of student progress, as directed by the administration.
• Initiates communication with parents regarding news about students through periodic mid-term reports, report card grades, conferences, student assignments, test grades and/or notebooks, etc.
• Gives students, parents and the administration plenty of advance notice to intervene when students are in danger of academic or behavioral failure.
• Shows discretion when sharing sensitive student information.
