Our Homeroom teachers are offered 2-year contracts for our two 10 month academic years from August 2025 to June 2027. Contracts for continued employment will be offered for additional years based on performance, as we love to have teachers who are interested in being around for longer.

The majority of our students enter our school with little to no English, and we are therefore looking for teachers with a bilingual/ELL/immersion background. We are looking for subject specialists providing instruction in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, or Science.

As a not for profit school, we offer the opportunity to really see your impact as an instructor. In your 4.5 day work weeks, you are able to work with happy, deserving students who bring plenty of joy to our faculty.

Please note that in order to apply for teaching positions at LIFE School, you must have a degree in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, and/or be state-certified.

Additional Qualifications:

Experience working with English Language Learners preferred

Flexible, resourceful, energetic, and passionate about education.

Committed to the school's mission of providing a quality bilingual education to the local population

Experience in differentiating instruction.

Working knowledge of Spanish preferred but not required

Preference given to teachers with experience working in a multicultural setting

Starting Salary Range

The school pays $1100/month for the first year, and $1133/month for the second year, with 3% increases each successive year after that.

Taxes

The school pays the 5% salary tax for each employee, so your salary is your take home without anything reduced.

Flights/Transport

The school provides an annual $500 flight stipend paid in January after the first trimester of classes. We also pick you up from the airport in a private shuttle upon arrival in order to facilitate your transfer here to Panajachel.

Dependent Opportunities

Children of staff do not pay school fees to attend the school.

Medical

The school offers basic medical coverage.

Other

The School has recently switched to a 4.5 day work week for staff, meaning that one day a week each staff member gets to go home at lunchtime.

Bonus

Teacher's are elegible for a $1000 bonus (based on performance) when they leave the school at the end of their 2 year contract period. Likewise, we offer a bonus of $3000 for staff who complete 3 years with us (based on performance).
