Summary of the Position: The secondary school counselor promotes student success, provides preventative services, and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. The secondary school counselor works closely with the elementary school counselor in implementing comprehensive school wide developmental guidance and counseling program.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
Developing and delivering the school counseling curriculum in a classroom environment;
Providing individual and group counseling in a variety of settings;
Consulting and collaborating with staff, students and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students;
Making referrals for students and parents to outside agencies and specialists;
Participating in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school;
Planning, evaluating and revising the school counseling program;
Promoting an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures;
Monitoring and advising students and their parents regarding their progress toward promotion from, grade to grade, and graduation;
Preparing students for the transition to the next division of the school, ie., elementary to middle school and middle school to high school;
Participating in the planning and execution of the school’s transition program for students, teachers and parents;
Overseeing the implementation of the Advisory program.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum a Master’s degree in school counseling or the equivalent;
Certification as either a teacher or counselor;
Experience as international educator is preferred;
Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity;
Good interpersonal and communication skills;
High degree of organizational skills and flexibility.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
Development and management of the school counseling program:
Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program;
Communicate the goals of the school counseling program to administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community;
Maintain up to date, appropriate resources;
Use the majority of time providing direct services through the guidance curriculum and individual student learning needs planning and most of the remaining time in program management, system support, and accountability;
Develop a comprehensive program that meets student needs.
2. Delivery of the school counseling program
Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals;
Incorporate into the program the life skills that students need to be successful;
Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans;
Consult with students, teachers, administrators and parents in the achievement of academic and personal/social success of students;
Collaborate with school personnel and parents regarding developmental needs and possible interventions which will improve the quality of student achievement;
Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs;
Maintain confidentiality of information for the purpose of safety of students, staff and parents;
Implement effective referral and follow-up process for students or parents to appropriate community resources as needed;
Provide leadership by collaborating with administrators and teachers regarding school policies and “next step” opportunities for ISL;
Facilitate the Transition Program for ISL students and parents;
In conjunction with the Human Resource Manager, facilitate the Transition Program for ISL staff members;
Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession;
Keep administration appropriately informed regarding the health and well being of ISL community members.
3. Accountability:
Conduct a yearly program audit to review extent of program implementation and effectiveness;
Collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis;
Measure results of the comprehensive school counseling program activities and share results as appropriate with relevant parties;
Monitor student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and in conjunction with the Principals facilitate appropriate interventions.

Number of Contract Days

180 student contact days plus 10 additional days

Starting Salary Range

Teachers are placed on the entry salary scale depending on the acquired degree and full-time teaching experience in full years in a school environment.
BA/BSc scale ranges from 25000 to 32500 USD (23500 EUR - 30500 EUR)
MA/Msc scale ranges from 29300 to 36800 USD (27500 EUR - 34 500 EUR)
After the 1st full year, we offer an annual increment of 3% of the annual salary.

Taxes

For those US citizens and other non-EU hires who can provide proof of filing taxes in their home country, we can offer a 5-year tax-exempt status.

Accommodation

Upon arrival, the school provides financial support for temporary accommodation ( up to 14 days) in the amount of 1/2 of the housing allowance. Monthly housing allowance is paid afterward.

Flights/Transport

At the start of employment and at the end of the contract - one-way economy flight from/to the point of origin. Annually - economy round trip. This benefit is extended to the married spouse and minor dependents (up to 2 children per family).

Furniture

Settling-in allowance of ~1000 USD (1000 EUR gross) paid in cash upon arrival

Moving Allowance

~1000 USD (1000 EUR gross) per teacher and ~533 USD (500 EUR gross) per child (max 2 children per teaching couple)
