Job Title: Primary School Homeroom Teacher
Job Purpose: Provide excellent lessons and learning opportunities for all students so that every child has the opportunity to reach their potential.
Reporting to: Primary School Team Leader
Other key relationships: Other teachers in the Primary School, parents and students.
Length of Contract: Two Years
Salary: Competitive, to be agreed.

Provide excellent lessons and learning opportunities for all students so that every child has the opportunity to reach their potential.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver excellent, engaging, challenging lessons based on the agreed JTIS International Curriculum.
Use supportive, positive classroom management strategies to ensure excellent behaviour by students that allows learning to flourish.
Use formative assessment to design and structure lessons that help students reach their potential.
Implement inquiry-based and engaging instructional lessons that encourage student curiosity and continued improvement.
Agree and set with parents and students learning goals for improving student academic performance. Monitor these learning goals and set both class work and homework that enables students to attain these goals.
Providing timely feedback to students so that they understand how to improve in their studies.
Use the school’s record keeping system to track attendance, assessment and progress.
Maintain a safe, organized classroom, which supports student’s independent and collaborative learning.
Supervise children during breaks and lunchtimes, ensuring safe and orderly transitions.
Prepare students for and administer any necessary school based summative assessments such as MAP or STAR.
Maintain consistency with internal and relevant external marking schedules and moderation procedures.
Maintain legible, accurate, comprehensive, records of formative and summative assessment results.
Compile competently written reports on student performance for internal and external use as outlined in our Assessment Timetable.
Participate in parent/teacher meetings to discuss student progress and learning goals.
Communicate and consult with parents of students on any issues of pastoral care.
Liaise with the Assistant Principal before responding to parents about sensitive areas.
Engender enthusiasm and loyalty within the whole school House system.
Encourage, support and maintain high standards of behaviour and dress of students in the classroom and in all school locations and activities in accordance with school policies.
Follow JTIS policies with regard to the Safeguarding and Health and Safety of students both on and off the school premises.
Work collaboratively with class co-teacher. This includes planning together, co-teaching; supporting students pastorally and communicating with parents.
Be prepared to support all school events including duties before and after school; parent/teacher meetings; staff development meetings; residential trips; after school clubs and school celebrations.
Collegiality
Attend meetings designed to share information necessary for the smooth running of the school and the successful delivery of its programmes including Staff Development meetings (where necessary), Grade and Primary Team Meetings and any other meetings requested by the Principal.
Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the School’s strategic plan.
Set a good example in all professional matters ensuring that all teachers and students observe matters such as dress code, punctuality and mutual support.
Supervise students during non-period time as determined by the duty rota, as requested by the SLT.
Behave at all times in a manner befitting a role model for the students of the school and in a manner that brings only respect to colleagues and the reputation of JTIS.
Represent the School at official functions as and when requested by the Principal.
Communication
Work together and share information with co-teachers and Specialist Teachers on pastoral and behaviour issues to support students and families.
Contribute to Grade, Primary and Whole School meetings effectively with relevant agenda items and supporting developments.
Follow the Home School Communication Policy to ensure effective sharing of information with parents about school events; pastoral care and student academic progress.
Ensure effective communication with Teaching and Admin colleagues so that all school policies are followed.
Ensure effective communication with the SLT about parent enquiries or concerns.
Communicate subject specific information (where appropriate) across the school e.g. calendared events.
Maintain confidentiality of information within the Primary Team and SLT.
Person Specification:
Bachelor’s degree in primary education or related field, advanced degree preferred.
Internationally recognised Teaching Certificate such as U.S Teaching Certification, U.K. P.G.C.E, Qualified Teacher Status.
Minimum 3 years experience teaching.
Experience of exemplary classroom practice within the phase(s) to which they are appointed.
Understanding of International Schools and teaching in China.
Familiarity with a relevant taught curriculum.
A strong commitment to extra-curricular activities.
Excellent inter-personal skills.
Strong communication, administrative, organisational and IT skills.
A willingness to engage in School life beyond the regular day.
A flexible, adaptable approach to living overseas and teaching in a new environment.
