NIST is looking for an effective and collaborative teacher to join our team. The preferred candidate will have experience teaching Individuals & Societies (Geography/ History) and English Language and Literature in Middle School in the IB Middle Years Programme. This is a purely middle school position with no possibility of high school teaching. A thorough knowledge of all subject matter, as well as the requisite teaching qualifications for both subject areas, are needed. Outstanding communication (both written/ spoken) is also expected.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Teaching qualifications (B.Ed. or M.Ed., a requirement in Thailand to obtain a teaching licence)
- At least 7 years of teaching experience in Individuals & Societies (Geography/ History) and English Language and Literature in middle school.
- Must have 5 years of international teaching experience in at least two international schools
- IB MYP experience (desirable)

Benefits
Number of Contract Days
While the number of contract days may vary slightly from year to year, it typically ranges between 182 to 188 including Professional Learning Days.
Starting Salary Range
As of 2024, the NIST salary scale begins at a minimum of just over THB 1,730,000 (approximately USD $54,000) per year for full-time teaching staff (and one additional step allotted for a graduate qualification), with a maximum entry point of THB 2,330,000 (approximately USD $68,000) - subject to fluctuations in the local exchange rate.
Taxes
Taxes are deducted according to Thai law. Average deductions for NIST teachers are 20-25%.
Savings Potential
Bangkok and Thailand are relatively inexpensive compared to other world cities, and a NIST salary provides the ability to live as simply or comfortably as desired.
Accommodation
We provide a monthly housing allowance between THB 42,800 to 64,200 for overseas hires based on dependent status. Additionally, upon arrival in Thailand, up to five nights of accommodation are provided in a hotel close to the school.
Flights/Transport
Airfare is provided for teachers and their dependents upon appointment, as well as return tickets after the completion of the initial two-year contract. Annual round-trip flights are provided thereafter.
Moving Allowance
A settling-in allowance of THB 50,000, subject to taxation, is provided for all overseas hires.
Medical
Comprehensive health insurance is provided for all eligible staff and their dependents, and it applies worldwide. (Please note that the conditions may vary slightly for citizens of the United States.) The school also self-insures dental, annual medical checkups and maternity benefits.
Dental
Dental coverage up to THB 20,000 per year is provided in the form of reimbursements by the school.
