Position Overview:
ASD High School Social Studies teachers are responsible for collaboratively planning and implementing standards based teaching and grading plans. They create an educational atmosphere where students are granted the opportunity to fulfill their potential through building skills through student choice and inquiry. The ideal candidate will be passionate for developing skills through the lenses of civics, history, geography, and economics. The ideal candidate has demonstrated their expertise in managing and organizing a classroom, while making learning a meaningful process. The goal is to cultivate the students’ interest in social studies and to teach them the systems thinking skills to prepare them to be change makers in this rapidly changing world.
Instructional Responsibilities:
Have a passion for High School education
Ensure effective delivery of the Social Studies curriculum
Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students regarding their learning
Actively contribute to curriculum development and monitoring processes by leveraging the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework to ensure alignment with learning goals and standards.
Maintain proficiency in school and subject related technologies as appropriate to enhance and deliver instruction
Provide a flexible classroom environment that supports student centered learning
Effectively apply the most up-to-date, research-based strategies to address the needs of diverse learners in a culture of transition and mobility.
Support and guide the integration of inquiry-based and project-based learning (PBL) methodologies into curriculum planning and instruction,
Foster student engagement, critical thinking, and real-world application of knowledge.
Ensure that all students experience appropriate levels of challenge at all times
Use the student assessment process to improve learning and teaching
Maintain accurate up-to-date records of student progress and attendance
Engage parents and students in the learning process through frequent, meaningful and timely communication about student progress
Contribute to department/team planning, budgeting and other operational activities as required
Skillfully and positively contribute to the curriculum development and monitoring processes
Think systematically, reflect on, and learn from practice and be willing to collaborate with others to learn as a professional
Engage with students in meaningful activities beyond the classroom which extend learning experiences and meet the needs of students (advising, organizing field trips, sponsorship of clubs, events, community service projects, etc.)
Supervise students as required by the immediate supervisor
Actively support student’s social emotional learning and well-being personally and by contributing and participating in appropriate activities and programs as required
Participate in the planning, implementation and execution of successful student programs such as Advisory and Inspire, including chaperoning and leading related trips and activities
Schoolwide Responsibilities:
Engage with the administration in a committed effort to continue to grow as an educator

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized and accredited university
A valid teaching certificate/license in content area and/or related field
A minimum of two years, current, full-time related teaching experience with demonstrated expertise in subject matter
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching in an international and/or overseas school setting
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience with standards based grading
Participation in current and relevant professional learning activities and committed to continuous personal and professional growth
Demonstrate focused instruction and assessment of student learning
Be open-minded, eager and willing to collaborate in a team environment in order to plan and prepare for effective instruction within the classroom
Develop and maintain effective working relationships
Represent ASD with students, parents, colleagues, and broader school community in a professional manner
Terms of Employment: General working hours are from 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:45 am - 12:45 pm (on site) & 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm (remote/flexible) on Fridays. In some cases, flexibility with work hours is requested to meet the needs of the role.
ASD employees are responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students. All employees agree to abide by all child protection policies and procedures, and agree to participate in all child protection training as mandated by the School as a condition of employment.
Criminal background checks will be conducted on all candidates prior to confirmation of employment.
Benefits
Starting Salary Range
The starting base salary range is $39,988 - $54,932 dependent on years of full-time experience and degrees earned. Salaries are paid in twelve equal installments.
Taxes
The UAE introduced a 5% Value Added Taxes(VAT) in January, 2018 on some goods and services. Income is not taxed in the UAE.
Savings Potential
The savings potential is directly impacted by individual lifestyles and preferences. In general, employees can save 25 - 30% of base salary annually comfortably. More can be saved, depending on lifestyle.
Accommodation
Overseas hire faculty members are assigned to a housing unit appropriate for their family size, in accordance with current policies. Faculty housing units are unfurnished and come air conditioned, include major appliances (fridge, stove, washer and dryer).
Flights/Transport
One way transportation to Dubai is provided to overseas hire faculty members upon initial employment. Transportation expenses for annual home leave to the home of record is provided to overseas hire faculty members beginning the first year of service.
Utilities
ASD covers the cost of basic utilities for overseas hire faculty members to include water, gas and electricity - within usual and customary usage limits in accordance with existing policies.
Furniture
A Settling in Allowance of between $5,00 and $7,000 is provided to overseas hire faculty depending on family size. The amount is paid in Dirhams upon arrival to Dubai to support expenses associated with moving to Dubai and furnishing their home.
Moving Allowance
A shipping allowance amount is provided to the overseas hire faculty member based on the following net weight (airfreight) from home of record to Dubai: faculty member ( 800 pounds), accompanying dependent (200 pounds each, up to two dependents).
Dependent Opportunities
A faculty member may receive a waiver on tuition and fees for up to two dependents, provided that this benefit is not offered through another institution or agency. ASD offers a Travel Assistance Program for dependent children (maximum 23 years of age) enrolled as full-time students in undergraduate university program of study. The benefit is limited to one economy return ticket, to a maximum of four air tickets per child.
Medical
A comprehensive medical insurance plan is offered at no cost to the employee for coverage within the UAE. Additionally, a worldwide plan (supplement) is provided which includes coverage in the USA and Canada, for which the school covers 80% of the premium. All plans (UAE and worldwide) include a vision and dental benefit.
Disability
ASD provides long term disability coverage for all full-time faculty.
Other
Faculty members are automatically enrolled in a life insurance policy with a benefit equivalent to twice their base salary.
Retirement
ASD contributes an amount of 10% of base salary into a faculty member's retirement fund (opened through one of two school approved providers). All retirement fund contributions and gains are accessible in full to the faculty member upon departure from ASD.
Bonus
Overseas hire faculty members are eligible to receive an Overseas Differential - an amount equal to 20% of base salary. This represents an acknowledgement of the commitment the employee is making when relocating to an overseas post of responsibility.
