American School of The Hague (ASH) is looking for a full-time High School Counselor SY 2024-2025.

Start Date: August 1, 2024.

Location: Wassenaar, on the north side of The Hague

You are a High School Counselor with a Master's degree in school counseling and hold a licensure or certification in counseling. You have at least five years’ experience as High School Counselor in an accredited international school, implementing a program based on the ISCA model. You have successfully worked within a diverse, multicultural community. You also have recent professional development in the field of counseling and experience with AP and IB Diploma Programs. You have excellent organizational and interpersonal and collaboration skills. You have also proven that you can successfully use a web based student information platform.

The Role: The High School, Grades 9 to 12, supports international students. Your role is supervised by the Student Support Director and you’ll collaborate closely with teachers, faculty and parents to provide a comprehensive counseling program for all students in the High School supporting the four domains of international counseling - Academic, Career, Personal/Social and Global Perspective. You will act as an agent to provide equity, access and opportunities for all students and promote a safe and respectful learning environment in line with our mission, vision and values.

The Work: As a High School Counselor, your daily activities involve developing, implementing and management of a comprehensive school counseling program. You will consult with, participate in and/or provide resources to teachers to facilitate the teaching of the guidance curriculum, integrate PSE and Child Protection content, when appropriate, into the curriculum, and participate collaboratively in planning and delivery of the HS advisory program.
You will provide career guidance, college admissions and placement support and course selection as part of individual student planning.You will work with students individually and in small groups acquiring knowledge on effective use of skills for success. You will conduct workshop sessions for faculty and parents on pertinent issues relating to High School students and/or child protection and welfare. You will collaborate with the Student Support Team and have an active role in contributing to educational plans for individual students..You will support students during times of transition, i.e. new and departing students, Middle School to High School etc. You will coordinate consultation with external community-based specialists. You will participate in Child Protection cases and support Crisis Response.

Strong, open communications are your hallmark. Regular communications with parents is essential as you provide and explain information regarding students’ social, academic, and behavioral progress. Your voice matters in the conversation as to how we can all best serve the needs of our students. If you have talents or interests outside of school in the areas of music, athletics, the arts or other such interests, bring them with you as you’ll be participating in after school activities in support of our students. You will be fully involved in daily life at ASH. Your “can do” attitude will be essential for your success in your daily school life.
