Position: Full-time English B Teacher
The school is looking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic full-time English B and Lower School English teacher. The role commences on 01 January 2025. The English department at Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA offers a Lower Phase curriculum, which has been created to meet the needs of our students and to prepare them to study English Language and Literature IGCSE and IBDP level. The conceptual nature of all our curricula requires students to focus on ideas that translate across the world, and seeks to inspire, empower and foster a spirit of intellectual curiosity in our students. We deliberately support students who join us from a range of backgrounds and education systems by offering English B at the IB level.This course is for students studying English as a second language. In English B, and in all of our programmes, students develop the ability to communicate in English through the study of language, literature, themes and texts. In doing so, they also develop conceptual understandings of how language works.
The teachers within this department bring passion and energy to our classrooms, and are highly experienced subject specialists. They ensure learning happens in innovative and exploratory ways and encourage our students to use their voices to lead. We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and someone who enjoys working in teams. The ability to work under pressure is also a key character trait required by those who work in this department.
Responsibilities:
- Teach English B to students from diverse educational backgrounds and cultures
- Teach English courses as required across the three Phases of the school: Lower Forms, IGCSE and IBDP
- Work with colleagues in the department to plan units and lesson, and to continually improve and align pedagogical approaches
- Timeously generate and submit mid cycle indicators, report comments and grades; and utilise platforms in the school to share feedback with students, parents and
other stakeholders on student performance
- Contribute to student growth outside the classroom by supervising a community service activity, club and/or an extra-curricular activity
- Serve as tutor to 12 students
- Perform residential duties
Skills and Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in English Language or equivalent
- A minimum of 3 years teaching experience at IB Diploma
- Experience teaching TOK would be an advantage
-Professional teaching qualification e.g. PGCE
- Passion for student-centered teaching and learning and the ability to develop meaningful relationships with young people
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
