Berlin International School is seeking a highly qualified, engaged, and experienced English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher to join our team. As a key member of the Primary Team, this role is instrumental in innovating and enhancing the language learning experience for multilingual learners, aligned with the philosophy of the Primary Years Programme (PYP).
We are looking for someone passionate about supporting the English language development of multilingual students through inquiry-based learning and personalized instruction. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with homeroom teachers and the Student Support Team to ensure that students with English proficiency receive targeted language support, fostering both academic progress and personal growth.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective English language lessons that align with the PYP’s inquiry-based approach, integrating language learning across the curriculum.
- Provide targeted interventions and personalized language support for multilingual learners, helping them develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English.
- Collaborate with homeroom teachers to integrate language acquisition strategies into transdisciplinary units of inquiry, ensuring multilingual students are supported in all subject areas.
- Innovate and enhance the EAL program by incorporating impactful teaching methods, including the use of technology and digital tools to engage students in language learning.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where students feel supported in their language acquisition journey and are encouraged to take risks in learning English.
- Monitor and assess students’ progress, providing regular feedback and adjusting instruction to meet their individual needs.
- Work with the school’s Student Support Team to ensure that multilingual learners are provided with the necessary resources and support to succeed.
- Promote intercultural understanding and celebrate linguistic diversity, helping students connect with both their home language and the English language in meaningful ways.

● integrate technology meaningfully into everyday learning and teaching,
● are passionate about education, committed to ongoing learning related to pedagogical theory and developments to grow their practice, have a growth mindset and bring enthusiasm and self-initiative.
General Requirements for Teaching Positions
● Bachelor’s or higher degree with a specialization in EAL, plus a recognized Primary teaching qualification (please note: a university teaching degree is required)
● A minimum of two years experience in teaching English to multilingual learners

Berlin International School is an IB World School offering the PYP, IGCSE and IB Diploma Programmes as well as an accredited US High School Diploma. There are approximately 820 students in the Primary and Secondary school. Our students come from over 70 different countries and our faculty of 90 staff from over 20 countries. B.I.S. is located in two historic buildings set in a beautiful green suburb of Germany’s capital city. We are fully authorized to run the IB DP and PYP and are accredited by CIS and MSA-CESS.
