Counselor’s responsibilities are to:
1-Use pastoral care skills and restorative practices with all community members.
2-Ensure that the IB learner profile is reflected in all communication with the learners and parents.
3-Systematically learn and innovate with the learning support team to enhance student wellbeing through relevant and evidence-based practices.
4-Ensure cognitive, psychological, social, and physical safety and nurturing for learners.
5-Support in embedding well-being into the curriculum, practices, and school life.
6-Seek and promote improved access to student wellbeing resources.
7-Enable student voice, leadership and participation in their learning and life at school.
8-Listen to student requests for assistance and provide support in the application of student modifications or accommodations, seeking help, including referral, providing community supports and liaising with/involving external student services where need be.
9-Develop and strengthen relevant partnerships with community facilities and agencies to promote health and wellbeing of learners.
10-Build and maintain a safe school community by attending to critical incidents and emergency management, safety and action plans, wellbeing alerts, individual learning plans, cyber safety, positive behaviors, restorative practices, and non-punitive interventions.
11-Help students process their problems and plan goals and action
12-Improve parent/teacher relationships
13-Work with colleagues to improve learning conditions for all.
14-Evaluate students’ abilities, interests and personalities to help them develop realistic goals.
15-Actively engage in professional inquiry (PLC, action research, workshops, study groups, critical friends, data teams…) with the aim of continually reflecting upon practices and improving learning for all students.
16-Reflect by examining beliefs about professional duties in order to conduct self with integrity and transparency, connect and build learning communities, and respect and promote organizational, local and global cultures.
